Hello,
With regards to your device manager problem, try running the resolution

If that doesn't work, run the command below in Start > Run.
sfc /scannow

Hi,
I'm using windows xp pro on my own pc at home. It is a legal copy and
gets all the updates automatically. I have anti virus and firewall
software installed. After trying to install a few programs, my computer
started playing up. The sound card stopped working. I tried to get into
"device manager" to see what the problem was, but it gives an error
message "MMC cannot open the file c:\windows\system32\devmgmt.msc."
I then tried to do a system restore in normal mode, then in safe mode,
but each time the system restore window opened up, it was just white,
there was no text or anything.
Is there some easy way to repair the system files? Can I reinstall
windows without having to reinstall all the programs I have on my
computer? Help please.
TIA
.
