Wesley is correct. That registry fix I pointed you to did involve a problem
that we encountered with an HP printer that resulted in a msconfig access
denied message. I assume this is not your problem so forgive me for
misdirecting you.
As I did indicate, in most cases we traced the problem to spyware/malware of
one sort or another.

Take a look at http://www.randomfix.com and see if that registry fix
doesn't resolve the problem. If not, do a Google search on "msconfig
access denied" and you'll be pointed to many sites that discuss this
problem and offer solutions of one sort or another.
That registry fix at randomfix.com has nothing to do with spyware or
malware.
You're only going to have this registry key....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Pml Driver HPZ12
..if you have the Pml Driver HPZ12 service, Pml Driver HPZ12 will also be
listed in Services.msc.
The Pml Driver HPZ12 service will only be listed if you have HPZipm12.exe,
used by HP Printer/Scanner/Copier printers to prevent Windows from
entering hibernation mode. The Pml Driver HPZ12 service is installed by
lots of the HP products especially the all-in-one products and some other
Printers, Scanners and Copiers.

Hi,
When I try to make some changes in msconfig,i am getting an access
denied error.I am the only user and am the aministrator of my
laptop. My operating system is Windows XP.I am not using any HP printer
driver or zone alarm.I am just using McAfee antivirus software.
It did not work even if i try making changes to msconfig in Safe Mode.
When I tried contacting customer care I was asked to recover my laptop.
(Note:I recovered my laptop one day back and dont want to do it again)
Could anyone please help me out in solving this problem?
I am not sure of the source of this issue.I am afraid that it might be
caused due to a virus.I tried running the microsoft windows defender
and it did not detect any spyware or adware.
Please help me out.I am in urgent need of a solution...This issue is
driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In nearly every case where we've encountered this problem the culprit was
spyware or some other sort of malware in the system although I note
you've
checked that possibility with a spyware detector program and the program
didn't identify any problem in that area.
Take a look at http://www.randomfix.com and see if that registry fix
doesn't resolve the problem. If not, do a Google search on "msconfig
access denied" and you'll be pointed to many sites that discuss this
