so because it had a yellow exclamation point next to it in the deviceCD
manager. AND I thought it would just come back like if you uninstall your
drive with it still connected it will just come back on reboot. Needlessto
say, it did not just come back on reboot and I found a thread somewhere on
how to get it back...

To perform a repair installation you will need to make a new XP cd with sp2
slipstreamed into it.
