Re: Defrag Stops at 47 %

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi Roger,

I have no recommendations. I use Windows Built-in Defrag program in all
operating system, based on this thinking:

The operating system is going to get fragged every time you use it. You
basically have to run it always. Besides I dual-boot my computers, allowing
me to get 100 % defragmentation most of the time.

The only time I defragment the partition, is when I have spare time and
when I want to create a backup partition image of the partition, I choose
and want a backup partition of. Some things you can be a perfectionist at.
But the use of a operating system partition is not one of them.

thecreator,
Thank you for your prompt response. I am frustrated as I have always been
able to defrag my system's partition until I uninstalled an unused
program.
Which program do you recommend - PerfectDisk
systemlifeguard.com/disk-defragmenter or
systemlifeguard.com/disk-defragmenter? Will either of there programs
repair
my fragmented file or folder? Are either of these programs available
locally?
Thanks again for your response,
Roger

Hi Roger,

Unless you use a Boottime Defragmentation program like PerfectDisk at
http://www.raxco.com/findit/..%5C..%5Cdisk-defragmenter.htm or

http://www.systemlifeguard.com/disk-defragmenter.html

You aren't going to be able to fully defrag your operating system's
partition.

I routinely defrag my HDD until yesterday when I went to control
panel>add
and remove programs and removed a 256 MB program. After I removed the
program
I never use, I ran defrag and it compacted 100% of my HDD and then
started
defragging. It stopped at 47 % and I got the window: Some files on this
volume could not be defragmented, Please check the defragmentation
report
for
a list of these files.
File Fragmentation
Total Fragmented Files - 1
Total Excess Fragments - 10
Page File Fragmentation
Fragmentated Folders - 1
Total MTF Fragments - 3
Percent Free Space - 72 %
I ran Check Local Disk (C:) for errors on startup and no errors. I want
to
be able to run a complete defrag so what do I do? Please Help
Roger
