Here you can opt to download just Quicktime:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
In QuickTime's Preferences, you can uncheck the Check for Updates option.
My perennial gripe with QT is that every time I upgrade it, it fails to pay
attention to the previous preferences - especially installing itself to the
taskbar. I seldom launch it directly, I launch qt or mov files.

I installed Apple's Quick Time Player on my XP system since it seemed the
only way to view some videos my son-in-law posted but I am getting very
tired of the frequent "updates" and the way, every time, Apple tries to
sneak in the I-tunes player that I *don't* want!
