Re: Why would an optical mouse suddenly not work?

I also have/had this problem. It started out with my ps/2 mouse locking up
and nothing that I tried freed it up. So I went and bought an USB wireless
mouse. After installing it all was working fine. Problem solved! WRONG!
After using the mouse for about 2 months the problem has returned with a
slight variation, the mouse works for 4-10 secs then doesn't for 30+ secs.

Any and all help appreciated

Sadly not for me :-(

Forgot to mention in the first post that the led light on the mouse is fine
and bright.

Bought more batteries today and tried those, nothing. I've tried the reset
button many times and still nothing. The machine has been switched off and on
several times since the problem first started and still nothing.

Getting desperate now so I'm off to the shops to get a new one (long as I
can take it back if it doesn't fix the problem!)

Thanks for your time.

with mine it seems to need new batteries, a hard re-boot (shutdown &
restart), press a button on receiver which starts its lights flashing, press
& maybe hold mouse reset button

Hi all,

I was creating a new template in Word the other night and after some
typing
went to move the mouse. It didn't - well the mouse did, but the cursor
didn't
:-)

Neither buttons work, nor the wheel. The cursor responds, i.e. changes
state
hourglass etc. when there is machine activity. The mouse itself is a third
party, USB optical and has been working fine for over two years, The
machine
has XP Home SP2. According to Device Manager, the device is working
properly
- although strangely (to me) there are two entries for HID compliant mouse
and two entries for HID compliant keyboard. The keyboard works fine and (I
think) uses the same receiver as the mouse.

I've tried de-installing, re-booting, re-installing. I've changed the
batteries several times. I've reset the mouse button, moved the receiver
closer (although its been in the same place for ages with no problems).

I don't understand why it could be a driver issue, since the mouse was
working before I started typing. And as for hardware, what is there to go
wrong? Do optical mice get old and give up eventually?

I'm stumped and would gratefully appreciate any help.

TIA
h
