Ok, I've managed to do a repair install, which for the most part seem to
have
taken care of my problem. I can start windows now, but after my desktop's
loaded I get an error message saying "There is a problem establsihing PGP
whole disk detection of removable media. You will not be able to uilock
removable files." - After that, I can't use the internet (the devices I
used
aren't even under my network connections anymore) and when I check my
network
adapters etc. under Device Manager they all show up as having out of date
drivers, but I have nothing to update with because I never received a disc
with the devices and I can't connect to the internet to update them! Also
my
Help & Support pages don't load. Any idea?

Try disabling PGP at startup. You may need to do this via MSCONFIG in safe
mode. You shouldn't need PGP to just basically run the system, unless you
did something like encrypt system files.

The repair install will force you to re-apply all updates past the basic
service pack level of the install. Do the network adapters work at all? If
they do, no problems; the Windows update process should take care of a lot
of it, and you can visit the manufacturer's website for the rest.

If you don't have a working network adapter or drivers for it, and your
system is a desktop, just get a PCI network card and install it. It will
come with a disk and you'll be going in minutes. This may cost you $15.

Does your XP setup disk allow you to do a repair install or offer the
Recovery Console, or is it a system restore disk from a vendor? You
may
need to do the repair as the quickest way to fix it.
