Try The Windows XP TweakUI powertoy to disable the autoplay feature on the
CD/DVD drives or removable drives, may be part of the problem..

I am having the same problem as the topic starter. I've tried the windows
autoplay repair wixard but nothing was found. My computer s running on
windows xp.
I want to try what you've suggested (below) however I need more
instruction.
Once I restart my computer to run msconfig will my computer go back to
normal once I turn it off and back on again?
Which option should i choose for msconfig?
What do you mean by, "make sure each file is listed in the location
listed"
and where am i supposed to be looking to , "uncheck the box next to it's
entry" ?
thank you

It sounds like one of your startup programs can't be found.
Run msconfig.exe and click the Startup tab.
Review the list of programs listed and make sure each file is listed
in the location listed.
When you find the entry that can't be found, decide if it's an important
entry
(if in doubt ask in here), if not, uncheck the box next to it's entry.
