Re: Vista Ultimate upgrade option? Concurrent 64 & 32 bit systems?

Thanks, but it was a clean install of VU64, and OneCare was the first
program I attempted to install after the O/S. The install stopped and
disconnected with a warning that OneCare was incompatible with 64bit. I
went to their home page for OneCare, and deep within the FAQ under the
Support Tab was the same statement. No where else. Nowhere on the box
available at time of purchase, yet it was bundled with Vista's release with
a promotional rebate. Suggests they plan a fix soon and did not want to
have to change the box. Could have given us a sticker. Also suggests
knowledgeable deceit by act of omission. Subsequently, an attempt to
install Norton's AV 2007 failed from the new retail disk. I got it to load
from an updated 64 bit release available at Symantec.com with my retail
code, but I had to push it through a Windows warning that it was
incompatible and will damage my system. Not just a generic warning. A very
product specific warning. Nice way to nix the competition. The question
remains, what does Vista support as an A/V application totally compatible
with Vista Ultimate 64bit O/S? It isn't OneCare, and it isn't Norton's.
Does anyone have this O/S installed with a functional and approved A/V
program? Has MS approved any?

Stick with Windows Live One Care.
Temporarily disable Norton AV to see what happens.
You will probably see a conflict between two anti-virus programs running
at the same time.

One Care has a two way firewall and anti-virus with Windows defender for
spyware.

I upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate 64 bit, placing VU64 on a new
Raptor Raid0 array. It wasn't easy. Most of everything I now try to
install fails, in conflict to 64 bit, not to VU. Example. Purchased MS
Windows Live OneCare to insure compatibility of anti-virus application
with new Vista. Nowhere on Live package did it say it was incompatible
with 64 bit, but it tells you so when it fails to install. Rude!
Further, Norton's AV 2007 is warned as incompatible with 64 bit. So what
AV application IS fully compatible with UV 64bit? I digress. Since I
installed UV64 on a new RAID array I still have my original XP Pro on an
old ATA drive about to fail, but I use it still for all 32bit programs
unusable on UV64. I even installed Live OneCare to XP and run it from
there.

What I want to do is run the Vista Ultimate 32bit install disk and place
the new 32 bit version as a second UV O/S on a new SATA drive, or as a
true upgrade over the ATA XP Pro O/S. That will require using the same
purchased registration code on two locations on one PC. I see nothing
in the license agreement to prohibit this action, as I own one machine,
and I need versions capable of running both 32bit and 64bit applications.
Will I be able to do this without clearing it with MS IT personnel and
B.G. himself?

I would have posted this on the M.P.Vista.Install group but Roadrunner
news-server posts 4 Vista related NGs that open to empty message fields,
and they have no clear online tech address to ask why. But their new 3
week minimum message/attachment retention on all other groups is awesome
if you have the time to monitor them. :>)
