Glad to hear it.
When in doubt when making any kind of changes, reboot.

Hi Wesley
Great news.
On the day I did the extraction the problem persisted and, as explained in
previous post, I thought that the extraction did not work.
Next day I booted up and everything has been fine since. So it would seem
that the extraction did work.
So - anyone with svchost.exe problem which shuts down server services -
note that this works!
Many thanks for the help.
cheers
I am having the EXACT same problem that shaun in sydney had - stopped
audio and network services, taskbar distorting, and services stopping
again even after I manually started it. The system also says that I
have an Automatic Update, but when I go to click it, it disappears. I
am convinced that my problem also stems from a Windows Update because
my PC was running perfectly before. I tried your remedy of expanding
the two files from the WinXP CD but the problem still seems to
persist. Yes, I did restart after expanding the files. Can you think
of another cause/remedy that I can try? I'm desperate - I'm spending
way too much time on fixing this! This is the only forum where I've
found someone with the exact problem as I had but I have a feeling
that there are more of us out there. Any advice you can offer would
be greatly appreciated - thanks!
