RE: Installer trys to get on Internet?

I just recieved the Microsoft Service Pack 2 CD in the mail I ordered. Do I
dare try to use it? I sure don't want to make things worse. The only Windows
XP disk I have is the OEM CD that came with my computer and SFC won't
recognise it? This even after editing Fp40ext.inf & Ims.inf files from
looking for XP Professional to Home per instructions in article 897128.

Thanks again for the quick reply! I only have the OEM CD that came with my
computer. I have downloaded software to slipstream SP2, and will try & make a
new CD with the original XP Home files & SP2.

One of two get Hold of XP H Ed SP2 from a friend or Slipstream the SP2 to
the XP CD you have know, you can't do a System file checker without those,
unless you put the path of the SP2 which on your C:\windows\i386 try to
locate it and redirect the File checker to look in that path.

Thanks for info, when I run SFC it prompts for XP Professional, which I don't
have? I have XP Home sp1. I suspect one of Windows updates has messed me up.
Had it on auto for a while, now I really am stuck?

Then run this command, by opening a Run command and type in: sfc /scannow
click [OK] and get your XP CD handy to insert it in if prompted to do so.

Or look in the Event viewer for any error messages (X) and post them in your
next post, what are you trying to install?.

I have run Spyware, Virus & Adware scans & cleaned up everything they could
find, twice. They now say I'm clean, LOL. I've tryed all the Microsoft fixes
listed for the Installer and no luck. Thanks for any help! This is really
buging me. I don't want to have to do a clean reinstall of Windows XP if I
can get around this issue. Everything else works fine.

Windows Installer won't work, get error message " overlapped I/O operation in
progress". Whats causing this, I've tryed all the suggestions on this forum
so far with no luck. Why does installer need access to the net? What if I
didn't have a Internet connect, how would Installer work?

It may trying to download this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en
And also if you install an application that one of its feature is to get
updates while installing to get the latest updates for it.
Be sure your computer clean from malwares and Viruses.
