I had to do a system restore because when I boot up it stays in safe
mode. I have access to e mail and the net but I have the teal green
background and cannot get out of safe mode.
I have found a Unichrome graphics device that has an exclamation mark
on it. The error indicates that the device" cannot find enough free
resources that it can use. (Code 12). If you want to use the device
you
will have to disable one of the other devices on this system."
Hmm. Why can't it find enough resources and exactly which other
devices
do I have to disable?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

While in Device Manager your graphic Devices properties, click on
the Resources
tab.
Click on the top resource type in the Resource Types pane and look in
the Conflicting
Device List pane below it.
esource type or use the down arrow key to check
the next one(s).
Whatever the device is conflicting with will be shown with it's name
in the
resource conflict window.

Thanks a bunch for the links. I had already tried some of them
several
times. I have just spent about 2 hours trying the others. No luck.-
Since you can get to Safe Mode Device Manager, remove any/all
devices listed in
Display (Not Monitor), close out and reboot. Windows will
redetect/reinstall the
graphic drivers for your device or the Standard VGA drivers. If it
installs the
standard vga drivers you will need the disk for the drivers or
download
the latest
updated drivers from the manufacturers support site to reinstall
them.
Read the
file(s) on the site or the ones included with the download and follow
them per the
manufacturers suggested installation instruction.

Thanks again. Still no luck.
I have contacted the manufacturer and I am now trying to download a
new
graphics card. I can get online and do things normally......but with
the
green background and poor graphics.
No matter how many times I disable the card in the Device Manager it
always loads again on the re-boot with the exclamation mark warning.
I'll post as soon as I see what happens.

I believe you mean you're downloading newer device/drivers, not a new
graphics
card. If only that was possible!
Just to clarify that you are in Safe Mode, you're screen does have a
graphic in
each corner with the words Safe Mode, correct?
I asked that you remove any/all of the devices in Device Manager
Display, not to
disable any. Did you actually remove then and you simply misstated
that you disabled
all that were present?
Did you look to see what resource(s) the device was in conflict with
as I suggested
earlier? Even if you install newer updated drivers that won't change
the fact of the
conflict. Please take a look at the Graphics device devices
Properties Resource
tab as mentioned and post back which device resource is in conflict
with which other
device resource.
Continue downloading the newer drivers so they can be used to
update.

How to ask a question: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375
Brian:
I have checked the Device Manager/Resources by type and found
under the"Memory" resource there are two entries for my problem device:
VIA S3GUnichrome IGP.
However when I try to do the fix (share a resource setting
with another device) as explained in the hardware troubleshooter, my
tabs do not have the "Use automatic settings" check box or other
listings eg in the device resources tab as described in the fix. I then
tried to get more details by using the"cmd.exe" etc but it says the
information is not available. Hmm.
I have tried many times to uninstall the S3G device but it
always comes back in the re-boot.
One of the microsoft support messages says this this particular
device sometimes shows only one device in conflict even though there
may be more.
Also my device manager does not show any Conflicting Device list as
mentioned in the fix.
So it looks like theS3G device is in conflict but I cannot get much
of the information needed to fix it. I thought for a while that my
graphics card was not working properly but given the information I now
have it looks more like a device conflict.
Also....I have tried updating the drivers for this device several times
and in each case I get a message saying the drivers I have are the best
for the device.
I mentioned earlier that I am not in safe mode...it just looks
that way. I can still access the internet and e mail. The background
color is teal green, not blue......and the page backgrounds, and
graphics are very grainy and poor.
Hope this clarifies where I am at right now and what has been
checked.
I appreciate your help and hope this info can lead to other suggestions
for a fix.
