Re: HELP! UPH won't uninstall - restart takes centuries

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi!

Well, it's taken a couple of days but I've gotten around to trying damn near
everything on that excellent site you recommended and guess wot? Yup, you
guessed it... nuthin'.

No change at all! :(

I think I have to go back to square one. The problem just MAY be that UPH is
stuck in a semi-installed mode and if I can figure out some way to get rid of
it, them it might be the only real progress I can make. To reiterate, here is
the chunk of my original post.

I tried to uninstall UPH and was
unable to as it told me that the uninstaller couldn't find
profileclean[1].msi. I downloaded a fresh UPH and it still tells me
that it can't find profileclean[1].msi. Therefore I can't repair or
uninstall UPH.

Let's just restrict this "next step" to this: Is there any way to kill User
Profile Hive Cleanup???

Thanks again for all the help!

No prob!

Glad you understand.

I can't try to "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP" you or even help you
unless I know what your problem is. You've quoted nothing of your
original message, and like most newsgroup participants, I don't save
already-read messages. Since I can't see your original message, I
know nothing of your problem except what I can read in the Subject
line, and since that contains very little information except for an
obvious exaggeration, I can't help you.

Please spell out exactly what your problem is, with clear and
accurate descriptions of what you want to accomplish, what you've
done, and what happens, avoiding exaggeration, and supplying the
exact verbatim text of any error messages you receive.

I had no idea that you weren't reading this on the microsoft.com
site. .

Most of us here avoid that Microsoft web site like the plague. It's the
worst possible way to partiipate here in these newsgroups.

Here is my original post

I'm definitely not a n00b and have been working on Win every day
since 3.1. But this one has me stumped.

A few days ago my system which usually takes 5-10 seconds to shut down
started taking 5 minutes or more.

I've snipped the rest of your post, since I don't have any specific
suggestions regarding your problem, other than to offer the general advice
that there's very good information on shutdown problems here:
