i have a computer that was a work computer set up to vpn into work
with a network domain, etc. I no longer work there (they said keep
the computer), so I thought i'd be smart and reconfigure outlook to
work as a regular email, and not have to login to my old network,
etc. Whatever I did, when I went to turn on my computer a couple
days later, the only option I have is "user name and password". I
don't have the 3rd box to login (domain, I think), so it won't take
my name and password. I can't get in at all. It was working fine
before. What do i do? I don't have any restore disc or anything.
I tried booting in safe mode, but it still took me to the login
screen with the same fields. HELP PLEASE.
In the user field you can type the user in the form of <machine>\<username> (for the local accounts) or <domain>\<username> (for Domain accounts).
If you were still using the old Domain login, using locally cached credentials, then the credentials may have expired.
There are programs around that will let you reset the local Administrator password so that you can login, but really, the firm should have given you any CDs, licences etc with the machine, or you should purchase a copy of the OS and all licensed programs.

Cliff
