Re: windows error messages

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

You most likely will find the Error recorded in the System log. However, I would hope that you do not have many recorded Error and Warning Reports ( the Event Type ) in a single session. Just post what you have but no more than six.

If you use the tip I gave you the Report will appear like this.

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7035
Date: 18/01/2007
Time: 15:15:21
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: GERALD-SKQPK3W8
Description:
The Fast User Switching Compatibility service was successfully sent a
start control.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I thought you were talking about the error message box displayed on
the screen.

OK part way there - I followed the MS support instructions down to
ACTUALLY viewing the reports and got lost when I did not know what to
look for in the three lists of logs.

Should I go through this 'tree' at the time the event occurs? What
name should I look for in the logs and which list (Application,
Security, and System logs) should I be looking in?

Hope this helps.

Please post complete copies of Error Reports not snipped parts.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the
meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and
Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using
copy and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no
further information. http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and
double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which
appears is a button resembling two pages. Click the button and
close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste
into the body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event
Viewer.

I get the following two erors - how do I fix these.

This one when I boot up:
Windows Installer

This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the
package exists and that you can access it. or contact the
application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
Installer package. This one when the screen saver tries to go
into standby:: System Standby Failed

The device driver for the Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft
Natural P5/2 Keyboard device is preventing the machine from
entering standby. Please dose all applications and try again. If
the problem persists, you may need to update this driver.

OK
