Srvsvc.dll is the file that cannot be found.
See this for a fix....
Error message when starting the Server service in Windows XP
http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/64/1/
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs starts *most* of the NT services.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\
CurrentVersion\SvcHost\netsvcs
netsvcs is part of the -k switch for svchost.exe and is the System User.
As opposed to these...
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k NetworkService
NetworkService = (Network User)
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k LocalService
LocalService = (Local User)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k rpcss
rpcss = "RpcSs" (System User, Critical Service)

Hi,
I had to reinstall a machine on new year's day because of this and now the
problem is back.
1. xps2 (all patched) is booted.
2. everything loads.
3. After it has all loaded, the system pauses, the taskbar turns grey, the
fonts in the taskbar change and then reset back to normal xp blue etc.
4. Windows Audio and Server services are stopped.
I have to go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services to restart
them.
I also get them to automatically restart, which they have been doing.
About five minutes after they have been reset they shut down again and
can't be started.
This situation is now critical because Server services
(C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs) won't start at all. It tells
me that the file cannot be found. (Note that I have searched on good xp
machies for a netsvcs file to no avail)
I did a system restore tonight and it has worked again.
But I think it's only a matter of time before the netsvcs won't accept
being manually started again. This is a big problem in a home office as
the machine that is the problem is the server .....
I have done countless google, xp forum searches here and elsewhere and I
cannot find anything the same as this - I have found some similar and they
point to possible corruption of services when Automatic Updates are
loaded.
Interestingly, I suspected when the problem first happened that it was due
to this too - but I really have no idea.
Oh - I have done spyware and av searches. Nothing.
