Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this - my brother just bought a new
motherboard, processor, memory and case and has put it all together.
We've only now discovered that the board had 1 IDE port and he only has
an ATA HD plus a dvd drive and cd burner. So, he bought a IDE to SATA
adaptor so he could plug his ATA HD into a SATA port (of which there
are 6).
Here is the problem - the IDE HD already has XP installed so is his
boot drive, but it's not being recognized on startup.
Any clues what we are doing wrong or how to get the disk recognized and
booting?
All help gratefully received!
Ian

Just curious - One IDE controller! - from where did the new board come?

Since it appears that the OP will not be responding to your question --
allow me to do so...
I assume you're referring to the make & model of the motherboard. Obviously
I don't know that but it's not particularly unusual for the newer
motherboards to be now equipped with only a single IDE connector rather than
the more common two IDE connectors. Since virtually every new motherboard
being produced today is SATA-oriented, we'll probably be seeing more & more
of them equipped with only a single IDE connector.
