This worked! Thank you so much for all of your help!

Make sure that Illustrator.exe is NOT running..
Open the Task Manager...
Hit Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
Click on the Processes tab.
Click the Image Name header to alphabetize the list.
If Illustrator.exe is listed right click it, select End Process and click
YES to the prompt.
Repeat if more than one instance of Illustrator.exe is running.
Close the Task Manager.
Open a command prompt...
Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
The CD command (change directory) changes to a different folder.
Type or paste into the command prompt:
cd %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
Hit your Enter key.
The prompt should change to
C:\Documents and Settings\Jen Holmstadt\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
Then type: del *.ai and hit Enter.
You should get this message...
Are you sure (Y/N)?
Type: Y and hit Enter.
The command del *.ai should delete all of the .ai files in the folder.
If that did not work, kill explorer.exe.
End Process on explorer.exe will make your Desktop, Taskbar and all programs
disappear. This can be startling. Restarting explorer will bring
everything back.
Open the Task Manager...
Ctrl + Shift + Escape | Click on the Processes tab | Locate and highlight
explorer.exe | Right click explorer.exe | Click End Process | Click
Yes to the Task Manager Warning that pops up | Click File on the Toolbar |
Click New Task (Run...) | Type in: cmd | Click OK
Leave the Task Manager open, but you may have to drag it out of the way to
see the whole command prompt.
Type or paste into the command prompt:
cd %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
Hit your Enter key.
The prompt should change to
C:\Documents and Settings\Jen Holmstadt\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
Then type: del *.ai and hit Enter
You should get this message...
Are you sure (Y/N)?
Type: Y and hit Enter.
In the Task Manager click File on the Toolbar |
Click New Task (Run...) | Type in: explorer | Click OK
This should bring your desktop, etc. back.

These files are ai files (adobe illustrator). What is the command tohttp://riccardo.raneri.it/blog/eng/index.php/2006/04/28/how-to-get-rid-of-locked-avi-bug-in-windows-xp/
delete them in the command prompt?

You didn't say what kind the files were. I can only assume .avi because
they can cause problems, especially if they are large files.
If they are .avi files in the CD Burning folder, open the folder and
wait a while, go have a cup of coffee or something, then try to delete
the files. Give explorer.exe a chance to read the files.
Avi files have a bug in XP. XP thinks that it has to read through every
avi file every time that you open a folder that contains any. You also
get the locked file in use when trying to delete, rename, move, etc. avi
files.
See this on a fix if the files were .avi.
How to get rid of "Locked AVI" Bug in Windows XP
The only down side to the above fix is that when you right click an avi
file and select Properties, the Summary page will be blank or grayed
out. Which I decided was a lesser evil than some of the other problems
.avi files cause.
You can also kill explorer.exe and delete the files using the command
prompt.

Yes, the that is the temp folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Jen
Holmstadt\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning.

What temp folder?
This one?
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\
Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
Copy the path from the Address bar in windows Explorer and past it
into a message.
Are they .avi files by any chance?

This didn't help. They still won't delete. I've rebooted several time
now. Any other ideas of what could be causing the problem?

After I burn a cd, two files won't delete off the temporary files.
It says that another program is using them, but no other programs
are open. How do I fix this?
Wait until after the next reboot. They should delete then.
When you try to delete temporary files, you almost always run into
some that are in use by Windows and won't delete. That's normal and
not a problem. They will delete next time.
