I was uinstructed by tech support to perorm a "non-destructive"
system reboot to reset my application programs. In the process, my

recover her files? My hard drive and overall computer is healthy,
so I don't understand; why did XP remove/erase/move all her files
if this was supposed to be a non-destructive" reboot?

Most reboots (if properly performed) are non-destructive.
Re-installs/Restores are a different matter and what I believe you are
actually referring to.

Can you be more specific with what the technician in question had you do?
And in the meantime - you should use the system as little as possible.
The more you use it - the less chance you will be able to recover anything.
