Most reboots (if properly performed) are non-destructive.
Re-installs/Restores are a different matter and what I believe you are
actually referring to.
Can you be more specific with what the technician in question had you do?
And in the meantime - you should use the system as little as possible.
The more you use it - the less chance you will be able to recover anything.
