Re: Won't Even Boot from XP Recovery Console

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello Gerry,

As it turned out, it appears I had a hard drive failure. Coincidental that
it occurred after I had the PC powered off for several days. In retrospect,
I guess that's when it tends to occur. - Bill

What is the make and model of your computer?

Try disconnecting all connected hardware except mouse, keyboard and
monitor and see if it will boot.

I press F8 incessantly during and after POST, but it never takes me
to safe mode or anything. Just hangs at Win Logo. On XP SP2. I
have XPize loaded to provide enhanced GUI, but never had a prob
before trying to trace my boot using Bootviz. Another curiosity is
that I have tried booting from the XP SP2 boot diskettes (6 of them)
but never get past inserting the 2nd disk. It say press enter to
continue and when I do, it does nothing. There are no stop codes
visible. Can't read logs because I can't boot to DOS. I run all
the
anti-virous/spyware stuff and can't believe it is a virous.
Especially since it only happend today when I tried using Bootviz.
Your help is appreciated. - Bill

Can you provide a copy of the Stop Error Report?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should
help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly.
Keep pressing the F8 key during StartUp and select option
- Disable automatic restart on system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until
you have resolved the problem. Check for variants of the
Stop Error message.

Hello,

I installed and selected Trace/Next Boot + Drivers on Bootviz
utility. When the system restarted, it would not reboot. It gets
hung on the Windows logo splash screen. I have gone into BIOS and
changed it to allow a boot off of floppy and CD, but both options
get
stopped without completion. If I was able to get to recovery
console
or even a comand line, I could run the recovery utility and go
back
to the last know good configuration. But it appears everything I
try
does help me get further that the splash screen. Help!
