Hi,
That's true in case of CRTs. But TFTs run fine only in their native resolution. Although other resolutions are supported, the display won't be as clear, and in most cases be fuzzy.

You are misunderstanding the quote "1440x900". They said your monitor can
support upto this resolution but what about your Graphic Card. You are
getting 1280x1024 because this is the higher resolution supportted by your
Graphic Card. Try updating your VGA Drivers through manufacturer's web-site
or Google for the same. See if an update can increase the resolution for you.

I just purchased a new monitor (an Optiquest Q19wb), but when I installed it,.
the suggested resolution was 1440 x 900. However, this option is not
available to me when I went to change the display settings. The closest
option was 1280 x 1024. As a result, the image looks wonky. I've even gone
through the advance dialogue, to the "Adaptor" tab and listed all modes to
see if that resolution existed. No luck. I'm running Windows XP, so that
option should exist. Any suggestions?
