SOS: Trojan on XP is not permitting to function any application

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi,
Recently a trojan (AVG says it is Downloader Generic.UDF trojan horse)
has affected my laptop XP professional SP2 instllation. On this
infected laptop I am not able to launch Task Manager by Alt+Del+Ctrl,
tasklist, command prompt etc. The programs momentarily starts and then
vanishes not sure whether they are killed or not, I am unable to check
the status of the launched programs in the absense of task manager.
Also when I tried to install anti virus software, it does not permit
the installtion either by kiiling the installation program.
Is there anyway by which I can scan my program at the boot time itself
on NTFS file system? How to take hold of my machine back without
reinstalltion.
Many thanks in advance
-Karmath
