Also, make sure that the contrast is turned up to normal/all the way-
whatever you like. It's easy, but sometimes that is the problem :)
Otherwise, a repair will have to be done as suggested.

Contact the leptop's manufacturer for warranty support; it sounds like
the display's back-lighting has failed. This is generally a
factory-repair, and the entire lid/display will have to be replaced.
