Unable to Start a Program with an .exe File Extension:

Try "Method 1" which links to an exefix utility (containing .com extension)

Hello. I am working on cleaning up my nephews laptop. He really seems
to have done a number on it. After a few searches I think I have
cleared up the .exe problem. None of the programs would run on his
computer, period. But, I was not able to run the .exe fixes and
eventually came across entires to enter and edit in the registry by
hand.
My problem now is that somehow he has also associated all the program
icons (lnk and exe files) with one program. First it was windows medi
player and now it is excel. I found one of the lnk fix files but I
cannot run it for the same above reason. It tries to run it with
excel.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
