When I try to open the command prompt (cmd.exe), I get
following error. I'm using Windows XP with all the
updates installed. My PC is also protected by the
antivirus program. I've checked for spywares,
and malwares, but didn't find any. I'm
currently checking for virus (using online
scanner) to make sure I have no virus on my PC.

"cmd.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application."

I'm on corporate LAN as part of the domain but
I was told that I have admin priviledges.

Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

What happens if you try to launch COMMAND.COM instead?

Note that under command.com you will not have all of the functionality
or flexibility that you have with CMD but it should work.

Good luck
