I recently installed Internet Explorer 7 onto my computer. My wife's computer
is networked to mine; she receives the same error.

The actual full-length message is: The webpage cannot be found.

Most likely causes:
There might be a typing error in the address
If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date

What can you try:
Retype the address
Go back to the previous page

This is happening randomely and not necessarily with each and every site.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dave,
Are you sure your computer is Malwares free.
From your previous post it seems more complicated!.
What your connection to the Internet with Router or ICS sharing.
Is your wife have the same IE version or IE6.
Try this:
Open a Run Command and type:
netsh winsock reset click [OK]
and Reboot your machine.

Thanks very much for your quick response. I tried your suggestion above; it
is not working. The same message is appearing on both my computer and that of
my wife. A little clarification first: My computer is the primary on the
home network. My wife's is connected via the Network. I also have a laptop
connected wirelessly to the same network. The laptop does not have this
problem. It only exists on the two desktop computers. Further, all three are
using IE7. I am using a router for the network. I also have Spysweeper and
Norton Anti-Virus on both desktops. They are both also using Windows
Firewall. Could there be an IP Address problem causing this to happen? Your
continued thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

Doug

Hi Doug,
1- First when you installed IE7 on the other cpomputer did you turned the
Firewall off and done the installation?.
I don't think that it is IP address more to me is DNS Resolutions issue.
Try to match the settings from your laptop to the other Computers there may
be a Higher security settings been set on the other computers.
Assign these websites in the trusted zone and see if that will help, also
spysweeper have an option to block some sites that have a pop-ups on it by
design.
The same with Norton Anti-virus.
I don't know what you mean with windows Firewall, if you have Latest Norton
with Internet security installed you don't need Windows Firewall Turned ON
and if the Router has a Firewall built on, try to disable/Turn OFF the
Windows Firewall and see if the issue will resolve.
IE7 has Pop- Blocker/Sites Filter as well try to turn this OFF or change
the Security Level on it.

2- Open a Run Command and type this :
CMD.exe click [OK]
and then again on the Run Command type: regsvr32 urlmon.dll click [OK] and
Reboot the machines.

3- You may have winsock damaged or corrupt try to repair it by typing this
into the Run Command:
netsh winsock reset click [OK] and Reboot the machines to referesh the
Winsock.
or you can download it from here:
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html for wins*** fixer.
P.S does the connection still On when you get this Error message or you lose
connection to the Router?.
* Note try one step (1,2,3) at a Time and Reboot your machines and try for a
while to see if the issue will resolve.
HTH.
Please let us know.

Thanks for your continued support of my problem. I have tried all four steps
you outlined; unfortunately, I remain with the same issue. To recap, I have
turned off Windows Firewall. I have Norton Anti-Virus 2006 which includes
Internet Basics. I am not sure whether this means I have Norton Firewall or
not. I do note a few spam emails in this morning's Outlook Express.
Specifically, and with steps 3 and 4, after rebooting I first receive an
advertisement on the Comcast (my provider) homepage whereas there was nothing
before but the error message. After a few attempts at closing and re-opening
IE 7, I again receive the initial error. As mentioned in my last email, I
have a total of 3 computers (2 desktops, 1 each for my wife and myself) and a
laptop. All three are connected to my Home Network. The 2 desktops continue
to incur this problem regarding the IE error; the laptop continues to provide
"no error related to IE 7".

By the way, I am not sure that Norton Anti-Virus 2006 includes Firewall.
Norton Internet Security 2007 may include both the Firewall and Anti-Virus
programs I, apparently, require.

I dont' know what else to try. As I thought initially, maybe the IP
Addresses are, in some way, causing this. I haven't had a chance to check.

Thanks for your outstanding support.

Hi Doug, You are welcome
Try to enable the Windows Firewall back On and scan for Malwares on your
computer if you don't have anti-spyware application then download this
freeware from Lavasoft& Spybot and scan for malwares:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D (don't run Spybot in Tea
Time Mode).
About the IP address if both computers (Desktops) been configured to get
their IPs automatically I can't see that the IP will be a problem but you
coulld try releasing/Renew the IP and Reboot and see if the Desktops will get
a newe one and that make difference.
Another try to Disable the *Windows Zero configuration* from the servces,
although I can't see it was a problem with IE6 before IE7 update but it worth
a try and write down every thing you change so you can revert back if it
didn't make any chages or cause undesireable affect.
To do that open run command and type:
services.msc click [OK] and on the services Window locate Windows Zero
Configuration and Disable it then Restart.
I realy didn't install IE7 Yet I'm waiting until it is stable and some
patches been issued then I will install it on my machine.
P.S change your Home page if it has a Pop-ups Advertising, for a website
doesn't have pop-ups,here in the UK say www.bbc.co.uk it doesn't have
advertisments on it and safe.
HTH.
