You were messing with msconfig, right?
Start | Run | Type: msconfig | click OK |
General tab | Select: Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services
|
Click Apply | Click YES to the prompt | The reboot your computer
Do NOT use msconfig to change your services.
Use services.msc *NOT* msconfig.exe!
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK
---
Why can't I use msconfig to change my services?
[[The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can disable
services that may be vital to boot your system. With the management console
(services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while unchecking the box, is
disabling the service.
The "Disable All" button also scares me. It should not even be there as no
reason exists to justify disabling "everything."]]

I was recently changing my start up process and accidentally hit the "load
system services" instead of "load star up items" Now my computer wont
acknowledge my sound card. I tried running add new hardware but it wont
run. I dont have the XP disc as I purchased the computer through a
university. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
