Re: Can't remove a shortcut from my desktop and can't give it an e

At Annoyances.org... I downloaded the Powertoys for Windows XP/Tweak UI. It
is in my Program list (not control panel) and when I run it and choose the
Desktop Icons... all it gives me IE, Outlook, My Computer, My Docs, My
Network, and Recycle. It is not showing me any of the files and folders I
have saved to desktop.

Maybe I'll uninstall this version and try to download another...
Thanks so much for you help...

not sure which one you may
have downloaded. but i checked
mine and it has a desktop tab where
it lists all the icons. unchecking any of
them will remove the icon from the desktop.

doublecheck your tweakui as it should
have multitabs and is launched from
control panel.

Hmmm... well I downloaded tweakui... but, it didn't give the option of
seeing
the desktop. I'm trying to search the internet for answers but I'm coming
up
empty handed... a lot of technical/code writing stuff that's way beyond
me.
I went to Annoyances.org (great website) but... no luck.

Thanks anyway... any suggestions how to search an answer... I tried
orphaned
file, no file extention... coming up empty handed. I'm sure I'm not the
only
one this has happened to!

Thanks Again

i had one like that too and
i think i used a program from
microsoft.com called tweakui.

but i can't be sure anymore if
it was this software that i used...

its worth a try.

if i remember, a tab lists the desktop
and that icon will show up (or something)
and then you can delete it....

it happens when a program decides to
use the documents folder for setting up.
then when it is uninstalled it leaves garbage behind...

I know this is petty... but, it's frustating. I have a shortcut to a
file
on
my desktop that I can't get rid of because it has no file extention.
I've
tried adding the .doc extention to it but it won't take it because the
computer "can't read the file". I don't even know how it ended up on
my
desktop. The original .doc file is in a folder... why is it duplicated
without an extention on my desktop? and... how do I delete it?

Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks
