firstly, be sure that
your hard drive jumpers
are set according to the
cable connector.

to reset the bios completely,
remove the watch like battery
from the motherboard - with care.
wait about 20 minutes to ensure
the cmos electrons dissipate.

reinsert your battery, with care,
and boot up. the cmos may prompt
you to configure the settings or
if you have a new fancy motherboard,
the cmos will automatically configure
itself and recognize your hd.

be sure to have you setup cd
in and ensure that the bootup
device is your cd. But you
already knew this....

I reciently got a new hard drive and im trying to install xp on it but when
i
start my computer i get the message strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup
utility. when i hit f1 it just beeps at me. Ive tried to reset my bios but
that didnt help.
