Mouse movement blocking

I am facing a problem with my mouse. At times during the movement it
stops for a sec or two and then continues. I am using Windows XP, this
problem started occurring recently only , I think may be due to some
update. The mouse is a standard USB mouse from dell which comes with
dell machines.

Anyone can point me out where exactly to look for?
