RE: USB Device Not Recognized - If u can solve this one, you are truly

Everyone who has a SanDisc please call 1-866-248-4498. I'm glad I did.

SanDisc did not know ANYONE was having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM with their
product. It all stems from the Microsoft Update.

I talked with Elizabeth and she assured me she would pass this on to her
supervisor and R&D. They also are not happy with Microsoft and their program
changes.

Meanwhile, make that call to SanDisc. The more calls they get, the more
serious they will be to develope a solution. Elizabeth told me it may take A
WHILE.

Also you can go to their Web Site and down load the UNINSTALL. You will
have to UNINSTALL from a working machine that recognizes you thumb Drive.
Once the UNINSTALL is complete, you will be able to use it on ANY machine.
This is a QUICK fix to get you back up and running till SanDisc finds/makes a
new driver for it. They said MS won't help them. It is up to their R&D to
fix the problem.

Please make that call to 1-866-248-4498. The more calls the better for all
us.

Hello & thanx for reading

I have a computer that gives the following error when I plug in some USB
Jump Drives: 'USB Device Not Recognized'. I did say 'some' drives. The
drives that produce this error are as follows: three different Sandisk
Cruzer USB Drives (1GB, 1GB & 512MB) and a 512MB Corsair USB Drive. As
soon as I connect any of the drives to any of the six USB 2.0 ports, I
see the following pop-up: 'Found New Hardware - Unknown Device' then it
reads 'Found New Hardware - USB Device' then 'Unknown Device'. After a
few seconds the following error pops up: 'USB Device Not Recognized -
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and
Windows does not recognize it. For assistance, yada yada" At this point,
if I click the pop-up, it takes me to another window that looks like
this:

USB Root Hub (6-ports)
|
|- Unused Port
|
|- Unused Port
|
|- Unknown Device
|
|- Unused Port
|
|- Unused Port
|
|- Unused Port

All four 'not recognized' USB drives work perfectly in my laptop
computer, so the drives are not at fault. Oddly enough, a Lexar 128MB
USB 2.0 Jump Drive works perfectly in any of the USB ports in the
problem computer. In addition, I connected an Intel PC Camera Pro, a USB
mouse and a Palm USB cradle to the problem computer and all worked fine.
I've tried the four 'not recognized' USB Jump Drives in all six USB
ports, with the same results. I've removed all USB devices from device
manager while in Safe Mode, then restarted - all USB devices installed
automatically, but this didn't help. I've tried the power
management/hibernation fix from MS. I have loaded and reloaded all the
latest hardware/motherboard drivers, flashed the BIOS with the latest
code and I've been to the Windows Update site to look for hidden and/or
any hardware updates I might've missed.
System specs:
Motherboard - Leadtek WinFast K7NCR18D Pro-2 / nForce-2 chipset
1-GB DDR SDRAM
O/S - WinXP Pro SP2

I'm thinking this is a software issue, maybe something to do with
whatever file Windows uses to install Unknown USB devices. I've been
fighting with this damn thing for over a week now and would be eternally
grateful for any help leading to a solution to this problem, short of
reloading Windows, that is.

Thanx,
Homer J.
