I have a friend who has just changed ISPers. Her previous ISP worked fine,
but about a week ago she changed. Now she gets the "Page cannot be displayed"
with an error message 'Server not found or DNS fault'. We worked through it
by phone using my settings and when she revisited her username\password page
the password read windows\sys32\shdoclc.dll/DNS error.HTM.
Any suggestions please?
Did your friend call her new ISP for advice? It sounds like Windows is
still trying to use her old ISP's DNS (Domain Name Server) server. Try
this: Click 'Start' then 'Run' then type cmd in the window then click
OK. When the new window opens, type ipconfig /all. Exit the window then
try a website. If it still gives an error, try typing this into the
Address bar: http://209.73.186.238/ - It's the ip address for Yahoo.
This bypasses the DNS server. If it works, then have your friend call
her new ISP to find out how to set up the new DNS address.
Good luck,
HJS
