I will try again formatting and loading the BIOS files on a floppy, then
boot from floppy (it's very possible I didn't get it formatted correctly).
However, using the Win XP CD-rom, I can get the Windows install CD to run
but I never get to the CD Boot menu, it first goes "Windows Setup" > "Setup
is loading files" (I see a whole bunch of filenames loading at the bottom of
screen) > "Setup is starting Windows system" - which is where I think I
should get the menu of options to select "New Install, etc." but apparently
at this point the screen goes black and then the blue screen comes with the
error "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer..." It's like Windows setup is, at this point,
trying to switch drivers and go to a different driver for the LCD monitor?

update,
load the update to a MS-DOS formated floppy,set the BIOS to boot to
floppy,
install the update.But w/o the update you should be able to install xp,set

cdrom as 1st boot device,set youre hd as 2nd.If youre hd has xp installed

advanced startup options and then select safe mode.

I seem to remember from somewhere that the D975XBX 304 with 0618 and
early
BIOS would not support the 7900 GT PCI-E video card (need to upgrade
BIOS),
so I thought that might be my problem. I then robbed a Matrox video PCI
video card from a Wiin 98 machine and tried Win XP install but got same
error as above. I'm thinking, according to KB 330181 that the old Matrox
PCI card is not supported by Win XP? So, neither video card is supported
and I'm dead in the water?

I have tried to upgrade the BIOS from a floppy but having never done it,
I
don't think I know what I'm doing?? I get the following errors:
Intel boot agent GE v 1.2.28
Intel boot agent PXE base code (PXE 2.1 build 084)
PXE-E61: media test failure, ck cable
PXE- MOF: Exiting Intel boot agent
No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key

I thought the boot disk would boot up like the old DOS machines and have
what it needed on the floppy to do its duty? Can I upgrade the BIOS if
the
new 320GB HD is not formatted?
