In order to troubleshoot internet connectivity problem on my
Windows XP Home Edition PC, I got into the command window and
executed: "netsh int ip reset log". Now I cannot connect to the
internet either with dial-up or though a DSL modem connected to the
USB port.
I also cannot "ping" either with a name (ping www.yahoo.com) or a
numeric address. However, I can "ping localhost" for what it's
worth.
I tried other netsh commands: "netsh winsock reset catalog" and
"netsh winsock reset" to no avail. I tried uninstalling and
reinstalling my DSL modem's software -- no help.
Should I uninstall and reinstall my dial-up networking?
Please help me get my internet back.
First - if you followed the steps laid out here:
How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357/
Then somewhere you have a log of what was done. Mind copying/posting the
log file?
You may want to start by setting up a new dial-up Internet connection
alongside the one you already have and... Can you connect your DSL modem
into Ethernet? If not - have you reinstalled the software that is allowing
the DSL modem to communicate wiht your computer through the USB port?
Last - one of the last things the artcile above does is point you to two
other articles...

How to determine and recover from Winsock2 corruption
