Fixed. We finally found a radioactive desktop icon... this was a
shortcut lnk which had been there forever and had worked forever... but
now for some reason, it's untouchable... a peek into the lnk showed
some non-ascii and presumably executable stuff at the top of the
file... no idea what that actually looks like, if it's really
executable or just random garbage that spaceshots xp as it tries to
handle the lnk...
Sure was effective though... wondering if it might have been the result
of an infection... ??
