Caroline;
"...to throw away MS' expensive CDs even if somebody says it is useless"
Never the less it is done quite often usually without anyone's suggestion.

Perhaps he meant that SP1 CD will be useless for REPAIR INSTALLATION
PURPOSES after the systems is upgraded to SP2. Just a gut feeling but
can be wrong. I don't practice ESP nor am I a psychic to be able to
read somebody's mind. I think he said something like: "repairing your
current installation". What exactly does this mean? How can this be
achieved with SP1 based CD when the HD already contains SP2 version.
Did he also not say that SP2 can be uninstalled? Are you not little bit
pedantic by trying to be a perfectionist? Come on life is too short.
not many people are stupid to throw away MS' expensive CDs even if
somebody says it is useless. MS products are known to be NOT USELESS.
They are buggy and requires patches but I would not literally say they
are useless even if I read on a reputable newspaper or a magazine!

This has nothing to do with language skills. He said " your windows sp1
cd
will be useless if you install sp2." That's completely false and if
someone
believed it, he might throw away his original Windows CD after installing
SP2. That could be a very expensive mistake.

Out of context? Unworthy opinions?
You simply made a false and misleading statement and got called on
it. If you post here, post accurately. If you don't, *expect* to get
corrected.

sp2 is an update that has alot of fixes in it.
you can download it and install.
it can be unistalled as well via add/remove programs.
because it is a massive upgrade, your windows sp1 cd
will be useless if you install sp2.
This statement is completely false and is likely to give someone
the idea the very much mistaken idea that they can or should throw
away their original Windows CD if they install SP2. That could
cause them a substantial financial loss.

However, again you can unistall
sp2 if you want to use the cd with windows sp1 on it..
although you should download and install sp2
maybe you could try repairing your current installation by
inserting your setup cd, selecting new install, saying yes to
repairing your current o.s.
if this works, then your ok. If not, you may not have no choice
but to get the sp2 and then make a good backup or disk image
of your partition with that o.s. for future restoration
processes...

When I reboot my computer Windows Installer tries to install
PhotoGallery, gets so far and asks for a disc I don't have.(I've
since found out this is a
leftoverfrom an
HP scanner which I don't have anymore) Anyway I've tried fixing
the Windows Installer several ways including Installer cleanup.
I can't finish
the download because "Error 1500. Another installation is in
progress. You
must complete that installation before continuing this one." I
have read that the XP SP 2 update includes windows installer.
If I download it will that fix the Windows Installer problem?
I feel like I'm going in circles. Along with all this Installer
trouble I get error
messages
in .NET Framework. Are both of these problems related??? Is it
possible to
uninstall Windows Installer?
