hi friends... ever since i inadvertenly removed some files from my
computer -
the desktop has had several problems.. (1) cannot update/change the
desktop
screen functions in display properties (2) the actual desktop screen is
blank
and every time i sign on the "active desktop recovery" message
appears...(3)
this problem is somehow related to increased use of memory.. (pagefile
memory
is being corrupted by some unexplained use of virtual memory). i have a
minimal amount of software on my computer.. i have tried fixes off the
troubleshooting for windows xp list - with no results... any fixes short
of
reinstalling xp would be much appreciated... ger

Create a new User Account and see if problem still occurs.

To Create a New User Account:

Control Panel (Classic View) > Users Accounts > Create a new account.

If you no troubles with this account, then copy the files from that account
using this procedure:

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811151

Start at "Copy Files to the New User Profile" Procedure.

When you are satisfied that everything is working correctly and you have
copied your file to the new user profile then simply delete the
old/corrupted user account.
