can't install fax--file copy error

I had this file copy error before when I tried overinstalling xp and
everyone said it's a hardware problem. But then I reformatted and did a
clean install and everything was ok, and I could overinstall after that. So
it's apparently a software problem. I'm just giving this background info so
no one jumps to the conclusion that it's a hardware problem. Well, I tried
adding the fax software from Add/Remove Windows components and it prompted
for the disk. I put in the disk and it went to the i386 folder but gave a
file copy error. I extracted the files to my hard disk with Winzip but still
not able to copy. How do I figure what's causing it?
