i have done everything in system mechanic 6 to no avail.
name a good program for editing the registry.

TIA

For cleaning up a large number of registry references to a
non-existant drive you could use RegSeeker (free) from
http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

1. Make sure you create a manual System Restore point before running
RegSeeker.
2. Make sure you leave RegSeeker configured to make backups of
everything you it removes.

I used RegSeeker to resolve a similar problem. In my situation it
removed over 15,000 registry entries relating to a Visual Studio
install on a failed drive.

Good luck
