MSconfig Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode
You get this message...
[[You have used the System Configuration Utility to change the way Windows
starts. The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or
Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility
to run every time Windows starts. Choose the Normal Startup mode on the
General tab to start Windows normally]]
AND msconfig.exe starts when you boot.
Maybe a registry value somehow left behind.
Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
If you see MSConfig under the Name column in the right hand pane, right
click MSConfig and select DELETE. Click YES to this message: Are you sure
you want to delete this value?
This is what cause the message and msconfig.exe to start when you boot....
Value Name: MSConfig
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Data: C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

Start-up was being lagged by too many programs starting up. Rather than
going into selective mode and guessing which ones it was I restarted in
diagnostic mode.
I can't system restore.

Hi
What problem did you have whereby you had to use diagnostic mode?
Try a System Restore back to a point before the problem started.

So after restarting my computer in diagnostic mode, i cannot seem to
boot it back up in either Normal or Selective mode. I tried going into
mscongif and choosing both but neither work. Booting from safe mode
and selecting Normal startup still brings up diagnostic mode.
