Sorry for top-posting, but have you tried the following:
Right click the "my Computer"icon on your desktop,
Choose "manage"
Navigate to "removable Storage"
your floppy should be listed.
Navigate down to "Disk management" and see if it is also listed.
If it is listed in both, simply assigning a drive letter in "disk
management" will fix you up.
If it's only listed in "removable staorage" you will need to mount it.
The bundled software should have done this step for you, however, it is
possible to do it manually from the command prompt. This particular step I
would need to research before doing, but "Removable Storage" will give you
the device # & stuff you need to make it happen.
You might want to check your install CD to ensure that it ONLY contains
drivers. If there are applications on it as well, that is probably where you
went wrong. Check any ReadME's thouroughly.

Hi Richard,
I researched the DOMINATOR External USB Floppy Drive
at http://www.mdmm.com/products/optical/dominatorusbfloppy.asp
There is no FAQs or information except the USB Interface is USB 1.1 or
higher.
You aren't going to be able to use the USB Floppy except as Storage or
sharing files.
What does the Informational CD say?

Hi Richard,
Let's backtrack for a moment.
The Device Driver sees it. Therefore the USB Ports are enabled. But
do you know how much power is required to run the Floppy Drive? How does
your Computer BIOS see the USB Floppy Drive? Is there an option in
Computer BIOS for the USB Floppy Drive? Does BIOS Detect the USB Floppy
Drive as a Floppy Drive? Perhaps, if BIOS loaded the Floppy Drive in
Boot Order, it would appear in My Computer.

You make a good point. I guess I was thinking along the lines of
simple USB devices, like flash drives.
What throws me is the fact that Device Manager sees it, and their own
instructions do not say to load drivers off the CD for XP systems.

Hi Richard,
That's true, but did not the USB Floppy Drive come out after
Windows XP was introduced? So Windows XP may not have the drivers for
the device. Look at the new USB Scanners. You need to install the
drivers first then connect the Scanner to the USB Port after a reboot.
The same is true for the new Logitech Quickcam Orbit MP Camera.
Drivers are installed first. Rebooted and then the camera is plugged
into the USB Port.
The same should hold true for any USB Device.

Should not XP recognize any USB device?
Even so, the instructions that came with the drive states "Connect to
any USB port. Once
you have made the connection your system will automatically detect
the drive as a new device and load the necessary drivers.
Only for Windows 98 does it state to install drivers from CD

Hi Richard,
It came with drivers for a reason. Remove the USB Drive. Reboot.
Install the Drivers. Reboot and now plug the Drive into the USB
Port.

Hi Richard,
Did the USB Floppy Drive come with Drivers? Did you install the
drivers first or connect the Drive first?

I just purchased a USB Floppy drive, I am running XPpro. I plugged
in the
drive, heard the sound of the computer seeing the usb device.
Device Manager
sees the device with no problems...
Yet it doesn't appear in My Computer as a drive
I've tried rebooting the computer, (which shouldn't be required)
and still
don't see the drive.
When I put in a floppy disk, the drive LED comes on, it has
power...
It'll be tomorrow before I can try this drive on a different
computer
