Re: USB Floppy drive

You make a good point. I guess I was thinking along the lines of
simple USB devices, like flash drives.

What throws me is the fact that Device Manager sees it, and their own
instructions do not say to load drivers off the CD for XP systems.

Hi Richard,

That's true, but did not the USB Floppy Drive come out after Windows XP
was introduced? So Windows XP may not have the drivers for the device.
Look at the new USB Scanners. You need to install the drivers first then
connect the Scanner to the USB Port after a reboot. The same is true for
the new Logitech Quickcam Orbit MP Camera. Drivers are installed first.
Rebooted and then the camera is plugged into the USB Port.

The same should hold true for any USB Device.

Should not XP recognize any USB device?

Even so, the instructions that came with the drive states "Connect to any
USB port. Once
you have made the connection your system will automatically detect the
drive as a new device and load the necessary drivers.

Only for Windows 98 does it state to install drivers from CD

Hi Richard,

It came with drivers for a reason. Remove the USB Drive. Reboot.
Install the Drivers. Reboot and now plug the Drive into the USB Port.

Hi Richard,

Did the USB Floppy Drive come with Drivers? Did you install the
drivers first or connect the Drive first?

I just purchased a USB Floppy drive, I am running XPpro. I plugged in
the
drive, heard the sound of the computer seeing the usb device. Device
Manager
sees the device with no problems...

Yet it doesn't appear in My Computer as a drive

I've tried rebooting the computer, (which shouldn't be required) and
still
don't see the drive.

When I put in a floppy disk, the drive LED comes on, it has power...

It'll be tomorrow before I can try this drive on a different computer

Richard
