Re: adware(flashtrack)

The main difference between Adware and Spyware is that Adware
usually contains a disclosure which reveals exactly which information is
being collected and how it is used.

It seems as if there is much more spyware around. No-one wants to take
"credit" for malware.

They are two different things entirely.

Ad-aware is a program to help find and remove adware/spyware/malware.

Adware is advertising supported software. It can be downloaded free from
the
web but carries banner advertisements or links that attempt to create
revenue for the company. It usually installs components on your computer
that transmit marketing information to central servers which in some
programs is then used to tailor the advertising presented for increased
effectiveness. The main difference between Adware and Spyware is that
Adware
usually contains a disclosure which reveals exactly which information is
being collected and how it is used.

We are dealing here with adware or ad-aware? They are 2 different
programs:which one of the two you are referring to?

having problems removing flashtrack.I have used the programs
spysweeper, bazooka and ad-aware but neither seems to remove this
annoying adware.please help!

I tell all my customers to avoid ad-removal programs like "Ad-Aware".
Complete garbage. They have a real nasty habit of removing Shared DLL's
that can stop perfectly fine programs from working.

These programs are not very smart. I once used an ISP (Prodigy) as my
dial- up Internet Provider, and their dialer displayed pop-up ads. Not
only did Ad-Aware uninstall my dialer, it deleted WINSOCK <!!!> from my
PC in the process, and I had to reinstall Windows all over again just to
get it back (Winsock is a crucial part of the Windows subsystem, and not
something you can just fix by copying the missing files back to the
Windows directory.)

Today, a client called me today because "Ad-Aware" had disabled his FTP
program, which was once supported by ads years ago, but has functioned
fine ever since and was not affecting his bandwidth at all. He ended up
having to reinstall the program to get it working again.

I recommend going through your computer BY HAND and manually deleting
any
programs that may be spyware that you no longer use. Automatic
"anything"
always mean trouble.
