Thanks for finding that Nass,
I downloaded the update and ran it, but still got the same thing. One thing
that did appear that I hadn't seen before was an error message saying
something about not being able to run 16-bit something or other. Do you
think this is the problem? What do you think?
Cheers

Hi Nass,
Thanks again for your help. I tried to look for the latest drivers for the
following drives: Sony DVD-ROM (DDU1615) which I believe is also known as a
Lite-on SOHD-16P9S, and a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW (GWA4164B), which I think is made
by LG. I didn't have any luck. I didn;t want to uninstall the existing
drivers without having downloaded any, but if you think I can still do this
then let me know. I looked at the ribbons and had a bit of a fiddle ; ) but
that didn;t seem to work either. Don't really want to ring Dell, as I've had
nothing but trouble with them so far, so any suggestions very gratefully
received!
Cheers

Hi Natalie,
Try this, Right click My Computer and Select Properties from the drop down
menu, and then click on Hardware Tab then Device Manager.
Scroll down to your CD Device and See what make it and write it down, then
go to thier website and dwonload the exact Latest driver for your CD ROM
specs.
Then In the Device Manager Uninstall the Device Drive and then Reboot, when
you back on Windows will detect and ask if you need to install the New
Detected Hardware, Click *Yes* and when represented Click I have the
CD/Floppy Disk For it and install from there if managed to dwonload it from
the manufacturer, if not you can select it from the List on windows or let
the wizard deal with it and install whichever it think the Right Driver for
your CD ROM.
Why I;m saying uninstall the CD ROM because there is may be a corrupt file/s
that make it can't run such software.

Please post back your findings

P.S if no luck try to reset the Ribbon Connectors on both the Motherboard
and CD ROM may be it loose and not firmly fitted.

Hi Nass,
Many thanks for the help. I tried copying the contents of the disk onto my
desktop and running it from there. Again, nothing happened. When I tried
the CD in my work laptop (running XP pro) the installation wizard appeared no
problems. Any ideas?
Thanks again

I am having problems installing software from CDs inserted into both D and E
drives. The drives appear to work with music and data CDs, and also other
software CDs. My system is Windows XP media centre edition. I have tried
running D:\setup.exe from the run command and nothing happens. The contents
of the CD also appear to be recognised, but clicking on the setup icon does
nothing.
Any help will be very much appreciated....thank you.
Hi Natalie,
Your CD Setup.exe engine my defective or corrupt and will not install the
software, try to copy the contents of the CD on your Desktop and run from
there.
Also try in in another machine, if it is the same try to clean the CD with
smooth clean cloth and be careful not to scratsh it (don't be rough).
