Re: Documents and Settings\Localservice\Desktop - Not found

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Fred,

Paste the following line in Start | Run and click OK...

msinfo32 /categories +SWEnvStartupPrograms /report
"%userprofile%\desktop\msinfosp.txt"

Dang it, the line wrapped. There should be one space between /report
and "%userprofile%\desktop\msinfosp.txt"

Locate msinfosp.txt on your Desktop, open it and scroll down to [Startup
Programs].

See if you can find any referrence to Documents and Settings\LocalService or
something to do with Help and system32.

Let me backup and give you some background Wesley.
To start off this is just my home machine(XP-Pro/SP2) going thru a
Linksys router to the network. Earlier in the day when this problem
started everything was normal. When I powered up my machine later in the
day I got a popup for Windows Help looking for help files in system32.
When I moved my mouse over the pulldown where system32 was displayed is
when I got the popup for my subject line... I know there is no such
directory from googling and the fix to create a directory called Desktop
partially worked. By this I mean I no longer get the popup stating it
cant find the directory but its still looking for help files in system32.
I doubt that its coincidence that the search for help files and the non
existent Desktop directory were mutally exclusive.
My virus protection is uptodate and I use ZoneAlarm as a firewall. I
suspect I will need to do a clean install.

Are you on some kind of network?

First Documents and Settings\LocalService does not have a Desktop.

I've asked before but maybe I wasn't clear. How do I remove this popup
when I am stating Windows?
