PS. Until you resolve the issue try removing the Browser duties from the machine. Go to:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters
and change IsDomainMasterBrowser to No.
at the same key change MaintainServerList to No.
You can change these again later on. If you can't browse the network properly (from any machine) assign the duties to another machine on your network.

You can remove unnecessary devices from the IDE chain and see if things improve, adding them one at a time thereafter will help finding the culprit.

Edition. It normally used to boot up in 2-3 minutes. However in the
last couple of days, it is been taking a long time to boot up - upto
30-35 minutes. This machine is one of 3 machines on a home network. It

This machine also has a DVD-RW that I added later. And I have recently
having problems with it - I have not been able to burn DVDs in the
DVD-RW - Nero shows an "Power Caliberation error" on burning data DVD
discs in this DVD-RW. The DVD-RW is able to read CDs, DVDs and burn CDs
just fine.
Nero InfoTool shows the following:
- Primary IDE Channel
- Master: Maxtor - 4R080L0
DMA on
- Secondary IDE Channel
- Master: SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SM-348B
DMA on
Autorun on
- Slave: DVDRW IDE 16XDVD SM-348B <<...the DVDRW I am having
problems with ... >>
DMA off
Autorun on.
Can anyone advise me what to do next to diagnose / fix this problem?
