Re: Desktop running XP Home Edition taking 30 minutes to boot

You have hardware problems on your controller. Look here:

How to troubleshoot event ID 9, event ID 11, and event ID 15 error messages
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=154690

You might get more information by searching here:
http://www.eventid.net/search.asp

You can remove unnecessary devices from the IDE chain and see if things improve, adding them one at a time thereafter will help finding the culprit.

Hi

I have a desktop with Intel Celeron 2.6Ghz running Windows XP Home
Edition. It normally used to boot up in 2-3 minutes. However in the
last couple of days, it is been taking a long time to boot up - upto
30-35 minutes. This machine is one of 3 machines on a home network. It
is connected via a physical ethernet cable to a wireless DLINK
broadband router.

The screen stays black for this entire 30-35 minutes. At the end of it
however, I do get the XP login screen. And once I login, I am able to
start applications that seem to work fine. During this 30-35 minutes,
the HDD light on the computer is flashing orange rapidly. I also an
DVD-RW internal drive connected inside - and this drive constantly
flashing a green LED during this 30-35 minutes.

I looked at the event log and found the following warnings and errors
in the System Event log:

This machine also has a DVD-RW that I added later. And I have recently
having problems with it - I have not been able to burn DVDs in the
DVD-RW - Nero shows an "Power Caliberation error" on burning data DVD
discs in this DVD-RW. The DVD-RW is able to read CDs, DVDs and burn CDs
just fine.

Nero InfoTool shows the following:
- Primary IDE Channel
- Master: Maxtor - 4R080L0
DMA on
- Secondary IDE Channel
- Master: SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SM-348B
DMA on
Autorun on
- Slave: DVDRW IDE 16XDVD SM-348B <<...the DVDRW I am having

DMA off
Autorun on.

Can anyone advise me what to do next to diagnose / fix this problem?

Thanks
Bob
