Thanks you guys. I'll try these before I try Kerry's suggestion, but
I think I've already done them.

maybe it is due to "GROUP" and "Access permissions" . I know that winxp
professional has a component in admin tools that gives you access to set
read, write, power user, admin rights, guest, etc.... but not sure with
winxp home
.....It is possible that you are not getting full control because the option
to give you full control requires to be set in this component

as administrator, make youre changes. If its just access denied, open
folder options, view tab,chk the box "show hidden files" uncheck "hide
extensions" uncheck "hide protected files" close out, make youre changes,
reset folder options when thru.As far as hd showing on start up,chk youre
BIOS settings.

Is this too difficult? The way I'm being ignored, makes me think I'm

Greetings, once again. I did a repair reinstall of XP Pro/SP1 a few
days ago and it seems like every time I fix one of the inconsistencies
in it, another shows up. I'm having an access problem. Every time I
work on a file or directory, when I'm done with it, I'm refused access
to either move, delete, or work with it further. I've gone into
'Sharing & Security' and made myself the sole operator, administrator,
etc; gone into folder options and unchecked the simple file sharing
and use simple file sharing options, but I'm still receiving "access
denied: another person or program is using blah-blah-blah" messages.
I would like to know how I gain complete ownership of my computer,
scrap file sharing and the shared files directory from My Computer, or
can I?
Also, I plugged in an external HDD enclosure and now have two phantom
drives showing up whenever I boot, along with the additional drive.
I've disconnected, sprikled holey whine on it, voodoo'd it, but they
don't go away. I can take them out with the 'Safely Remove Hardware'
tool, but the next time I boot, they show up again. There are no
drives associated with either of them.
Any help I can get to permanently solve either or both of these
problems would be appreciated. If this isn't enough information, let
me know what else I need to explain & I'll fill in whatever blanks. I
hope I'm about done setting this thing up so I can actually use it
without having to stop mid-task to do some sort of reconfiguring.
Thanks much.
mn.
