I am not familiar with Sony's VAIO System Recovery. You ought to contact Sony's support and see what they have to say.
I'd urge you to see about getting the XP Pro CD from them.

Not having the XP on CD, and not having a diskette drive, puts a severe limit on what's possible.

My computer does not have a floppy drive it only has a CD drive. Is there a
way to save to CD?

I have the same problem as Quiller. I have a Sony Vaio Notebook with
Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system and while I was in the
middle of perfoming a scan disk I lost power to my computer. Now when I
start my computer I get the Microsoft logo followed by the Sony logo and then
I am asked which mode I want to start in. I have selected each mode and each
time I do it it brings me back to the same message.

My computer has a hidden partition with the VAIO Recovery Wizard software
which will allow me to perform a System Recovery however; it says I can loose
everything. Do you know if it is possible to back up everything on my
computer before doing the System Recovery? Is there a way do do a partial
recovery so I dont lose everything?
