Years ago I uninstalled my Symantec antivirus software & since then
successfully have been using McAfee. Recently, I set up a Brother
MFC-5440CN
printer/fax/copier/scanner & installed the MFC-5440CN MFL-ProSuite
software/driver(s). Now every time I boot up my Dell 8200 the following
error
message appears:

16 Bit Windows Subsytem c:\Program~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable
Virtual Driver failed Dll initializaition. Chose Close to terminate the
application.

There is a choice of buttons: Close or Ignore.

If I close, I can continue, but the computer operates very sluggishly; if
I
ignore, the error pops up frequently necessitating my clicking on ignore.

I understand that the reference to the Program~1\Symantec may be a hold
over
in the registry from my uninstalling the software...even though a file
search
using the word symantec turns up nothing.

Question: How can I eliminate the error message from appearing?

Question: To do so, must I eliminate/delete something in the registry? If
so, can someone provide me with a novice's step by step to do so.

I'd prefer not to have to "restore" my system to the day before the
printer/software installation, as it's been about a week and there's other
info in the system that I'd hope to avoid "reentering."

Thanks for any advice/direction/help.

Bob
